Who I Am and Why I Chose to Support Emotional Wellbeing

Hi, I’m Katie. I’m a military wife, a mother and the founder of The Wellbeing Hub which opened its doors in 2024. But the truth is this journey started long before the Hub existed.

I worked as an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) for several years and saw just how important emotional support is for children and how often it’s missing. When my role was cut due to funding I was offered a teaching assistant position. I was grateful to be considered but something in me knew I couldn’t go back. I had a bigger purpose. So I made the decision to step away and fully step into what I felt called to do.

This decision wasn’t just about career change. It came from my own personal experience. Since becoming a mum I’ve struggled with my own mental health. The exhaustion and the overwhelm and the shift in identity made me feel like I was silently drowning while appearing “fine” on the outside. Like many women I kept going. But deep down I knew I didn’t want others to feel the same isolation or guilt for not always being okay. That became the heart of my work.

The Wellbeing Hub was built from both passion and experience. I wanted to create a safe and nurturing space where people feel seen and heard and supported no matter what they’re carrying.

One area I feel really drawn to is supporting SEN families. As a parent of a child with additional needs I understand the pressures that come with the role. The appointments and the advocating and the daily emotional load can be so heavy. Often the parents and siblings are overlooked. They’re expected to just get on with it. But I see them. I created this space for them too.

I also have a strong desire to support military spouses. Being the one who keeps everything going when your partner is away is something not everyone understands. You’re raising children and managing a home and juggling everything alone. It’s a role filled with resilience but it can also feel very isolating. I know this because I live it too.

Whether you’re a parent who feels lost or a sibling who feels invisible or a military partner who’s holding it all together or just someone who needs space to breathe—I see you. I created this space for you.

Emotional wellbeing isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. We all deserve to feel supported and understood and to know we’re not alone.

With care,

Katie
